Time & Location

November 2026, date coming soon

Cincinnati, OH (TBA)

About the event

Learn to weave self-myofascial release into any yoga class. In this 3-hour live, hands-on workshop, you'll practice simple ball, block and roller techniques, learn how they affect tissue fluid and the nervous system, and leave with ready-to-teach openers matched to common peak poses.

3 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education contact hours (Techniques, Training & Practice 1.0, Teaching Methodology 1.0, Anatomy & Physiology 1.0). Attend all 3 hours and complete a short quiz to receive your certificate.

What we cover

  • Fascia essentials for yoga teachers: what fascia is, its layers, and why slow pressure and movement help tissue glide and calm the nervous system

  • The technique ladder, practiced on your own mat: compression, rolling, shearing, cross-fibering, pinning, winding and scribbling, with gentle, medium and targeted options

  • Test, roll, retest: using yoga poses before and after release so students feel the change

  • Class prescriptions matched to the peak pose: forward folds, backbends, shoulders and inversions, hip openers, twists, standing balance and restorative classes

  • Safe group teaching: an opening check-in script, key cautions, modifications and props, and clear cueing for intensity and breath

  • Practice teaching in small groups, with peer feedback

Workshop outline

3 hours, live and hands-on, with 1 CE contact hour in each Yoga Alliance category:

  • 0:00 Welcome, safety and scope: the opening check-in script, red flags and when to refer, "no nerves, no bones, no swelling," and teaching self-release only

  • 0:15 Fascia for yoga teachers (Anatomy & Physiology): what fascia is, its layers, tissue fluid and glide, the nervous system, and why where it hurts is often not where it starts

  • 0:45 The technique ladder on your mat (Techniques, Training & Practice): compression, rolling, pinning, shearing, cross-fibering, winding and scribbling with balls, a block and a roller, plus gentler options

  • 1:25 Break

  • 1:35 MFR matched to the peak pose (Teaching Methodology): prime, background and downregulate; practice openers for forward folds, heart openers and hip openers with test, roll, retest

  • 2:15 Teach it: the cueing bank, group set-up, and modifications for pregnancy, osteoporosis, hypermobility and students who can't get to the floor; practice-teach a 10-minute opener

  • 2:45 Q&A, quiz and certificate: questions, the short quiz for your CE hours, and your take-home teaching guide

FAQ

Yes, 3 Yoga Alliance contact hours (Techniques, Training & Practice 1.0, Teaching Methodology 1.0, Anatomy & Physiology 1.0). Attend all 3 hours and complete a short quiz to receive your certificate.

Absolutely. You'll learn self-release for your own practice, and you'll still receive a certificate of completion.

No. Everything is self-myofascial release, using your own body weight and simple tools.

Self-release should feel comfortable. If you're pregnant, recovering from an injury or have a medical condition, check with your healthcare provider first and let Marda know at the start.
